Mission

Details

The Committee for Sustainable Mineral Resources Management of the Polish Academy of Sciences was established in 1980. The Committee operates in the Fourth Faculty of Technical Sciences of the Polish Academy of Sciences, integrating scientists involved in the complex management of mineral resources by undertaking interdisciplinary activities in the fields of geological sciences, mining, mineral processing and economics.

The Committee members include Polish members of the Polish Academy of Sciences with relevant specialities, academic staff from other universities, institutions of the Polish Academy of Sciences, government research institutes and representatives of economic and social institutions and organizations. Uniting the scientific community, the Committee acts as an advisory and consultative body, effectively impacting on the sustainable development and management of mineral resources.

Framework plan of the Committee for Sustainable Mineral Resources Management of the Polish Academy of Sciences:

  1. Analysis and evaluation of the scientific basis for the management of mineral resources:
    • Mineral resources management in land use planning
    • Legal aspects of mineral resources management
    • The management of mineral resources in Poland, with particular focus on the globalization of mineral resources, fuels and energy markets
    • The energy security of Poland in open market conditions and in the wider context of the depletion of raw materials
    • The energy and raw material policy of Poland as an EU member
    • The ecological life cycle of mineral resources
    • Technological aspects of mineral resources management
    • The popularization of knowledge about mineral resources management.
  1. Issuing expert opinions.
  2. Cooperation with other committees of the Polish Academy of Sciences and with the Commissions of the Ministry of the Environment.
  3. Publishing activities:
    • The quarterly publication of Mineral Resources Management
    • Thematic publications.
  4. Co-organizing conferences:
    • Zagadnienia Surowców Energetycznych i Energii w Gospodarce Krajowej (Issues of Energy Resources and Energy in the Domestic Economy)
    • Aktualia i Perspektywy Gospodarki Surowcami Mineralnymi (Updates and Perspectives on Mineral Resources Management).
